From the onset of the week, it seemed clear DJ Khaled’s “Major Key” was headed for a #1 debut on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart.
Drake’s enduring “Views,” however, seemed set to retain its #1 position on the Billboard 200 consumption chart.
New data paints a more favorable picture of “Major Key.” Not simply set for a convincing win in the pure sales race, DJ Khaled’s new studio album is also the frontrunner to win the consumption battle.
According to Hits Daily Double, “Major Key” is now expected to sell 60-65,000 pure US copies during the July 29-August 4 tracking week. The inclusion of TEA (track sales/10) and SEA (track streams/1500) should result in a consumption tally of 90-100,000.
With “Views” expected to generate 75-85,000 in weekly consumption, “Major Key” appears poised for a #1 bow on the Billboard 200. This would mark only the second time — in fourteen weeks of release — that “Views” missed #1.
Save for the album’s official singles — one of which, “For Free,” features Drake — “Major Key” is presently exclusive to Apple Music.
