The Weeknd’s “Beauty,” Sam Hunt’s “Montevallo” Certified 2X Platinum In the US

Earlier this morning, Headline Planet confirmed that The Weeknd’s “Beauty Behind The Madness” had sold approximately 913,000 US copies since its release. Sam Hunt’s “Montevallo” had sold just over 1 million.

Interestingly, both albums have just been certified double-platinum in the United States.

The reason? The RIAA’s new consumption rule.

Aligning itself with the Billboard 200, the RIAA has opted to add track sales and streams to the album certification program. A certified unit is now equivalent to 1 album sales, 10 track sales, or 1500 track streams.

The double-platinum certifications confirm US unit totals of at least 2 million.
