Alanis Morissette’s “Jagged Little Pill” Crosses 15 Million Sales; Joins Metallica, Shania

When the June 15-21 tracking week concluded, the US sales total for Alanis Morissette’s “Jagged Little Pill” exceeded 15 million.

Brought past the 15 million mark thanks to what Nielsen reports as approximately 4,000 sales, the iconic album becomes just the third album to achieve the milestone in the Soundscan era (post-1991).

Metallica’s black album and Shania Twain’s “Come On Over” are the other two members of the 15 million sales club. According to Nielsen Music, they boast respective sales totals of 16.1 million and 15.6 million, respectively.

Not simply successful as an entire package, “Jagged Little Pill” also produced hit singles in “You Oughta Know,” “Hand in My Pocket,” “Ironic” and “You Learn.”
