Passion Pit’s “Kindred” Debuts with ~16K Sales; Down More Than 55% From “Gossamer”

The third Passion Pit album got off to a considerably slower start than the second one.

Nielsen Music says that “Kindred,” that third album, debuted with 16,295 pure album sales.

The week’s fifth-best total for a new release, the tally markedly trails that earned by predecessor “Gossamer.”

Released in July 2012, “Gossamer” moved approximately 37,000 copies during its first week of availability. Digital downloads represented roughly 27,000 of those first week sales.

The weekly tally was enough to thrust “Gossamer” into the #4 position on the weekly Billboard 200. “Kindred” did not make the top 10.

Per Nielsen, Alabama Shakes’ new “Sound & Color” was this past week’s top debut–and top overall seller. It moved 90,888 pure copies during the tracking week ending April 26.
