ABC Cancels “Revenge,” Syfy Passes on Third “Helix” Season

Poor ratings do not always lead to cancellations in the modern television era, but they did in the case of a pair of dramas.

Sources confirm that ABC has cancelled “Revenge.” Syfy, meanwhile, has brought an end to drama “Helix.”

Signaled by promotion that implied the final fourth season episodes were the show’s final episodes whatsoever, the “Revenge” cancellation does not come as a surprise. A solid performer in its initial Wednesday night timeslot, “Revenge” has struggled since moving to Sundays. That struggle intensified this year; the show’s episodic adults 18-49 rating typically falls in the 1.0 range.

The “Helix” cancellation, which comes following its second season, is also an expected one. The series completely tanked in the ratings this year, and it routinely squandered its already modest “12 Monkeys” lead-in.

Far from a blockbuster hit in its own right, “12 Monkeys” has nonetheless been renewed for a second season.
