An opening week sales total of nearly 10,000 powers Sabrina Carpenter’s acclaimed debut album “Eyes Wide Open” to a #31 debut on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart.
According to Nielsen Music, “Eyes Wide Open” shifted 9,864 copies during its first week of availability. The week’s #31 overall sales total, it ranks as the 9th-greatest for a new release.
Certainly not a blockbuster number by overall market standards, the opening week sum is solid in context.
As a point of comparison, the 2013 self-titled release from fellow Disney Channel star Zendaya moved approximately 7,000 first-week copies. That album, which opened at #51 in the United States, featured a fairly high-profile lead single in “Replay.”
In addition to starting at #31 on Top Album Sales, “Eyes Wide Open” debuts at #43 on the revamped Billboard 200. That chart ranks albums based on a combination of pure album sales, track equivalent albums (10 single sales = 1 album sale) and streaming equivalent albums (1500 single streams = 1 album sale).
Because “Eyes” did not receive significant TEA and SEA boosts, it starts lower on the Billboard 200 than it does on Top Album Sales.
