While a lot can change between now and the end of the tracking period, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga’s “Cheek to Cheek” collaboration is currently pacing just shy of a chart-topping sales week.
Based on opening day sales data, Hits Daily Double forecasts a bow in the 115-125,000 range for “Cheek.” That forecast trails the 125-135,000 sum expected of Kenny Chesney’s “The Big Revival.”
Evidenced by the extent to which Barbra Streisand’s “Partners” and Chris Brown’s “X” obliterated initial forecasts, today’s numbers could be subject to notable transformation in the coming days.
The evolution of the “Cheek to Cheek” projection will be particularly interesting to follow. While sales for a Lady Gaga album would typically be frontloaded due to passionate fans buying the digital album in its first few days, releases from veteran artists like Tony Bennett often hold steady–or even gain steam–late in the week.
It is presently unclear whether analysts anticipated “Cheek to Cheek” performing more like a Gaga album or more like a Bennett album when crafting their projections.
Other top weekly sellers will include alt-J’s “This is All Yours” (~55-65,000), Pentatonix’s “PTX, Volume III” (~40-45,000) and 5 Seconds of Summer’s “Amnesia” EP (~35-45,000).
