While Billboard and Nielsen have not yet issued a final weekly sales report, enough data is available to report that Adele’s “25” crossed the 7 million US sales mark during the December 18-24 tracking week.
“25” entered the week with a cumulative US sales total of 5.976 million. According to Hits Daily Double’s preliminary sales report, “25” sold approximately 1,112,092 million copies between December 18 and 24.
The Billboard/Nielsen data will differ slightly, but not by nearly enough to jeopardize the achievement. After only five weeks of availability, “25” has indeed sold over 7 million copies in the United States.
In posting a seven-figure US sales total this week, “25” additionally becomes the first album (in the Soundscan era) to sell at least 1 million US copies in three separate weeks. Since the start of Soundscan tracking, no other album has even sold a million US copies in two different weeks.
“25,” obviously, will score a fifth straight week atop the Billboard Top Album Sales chart. It will also lead the consumption-oriented (album sales + track sales/10 + track streams/1500) Billboard 200.
