“Jason Bourne,” the first “Bourne” film since 2012’s “The Bourne Legacy” and first “Bourne” to star Matt Damon since 2007’s “The Bourne Ultimatum,” easily took #1 at the Friday US box office.

“Jason Bourne” earned $22.7 million in its first day of release. The tally, which more than doubles that of the day’s #2 film, positions “Bourne” for an easy weekend victory.

By the close of Sunday, the “Jason Bourne” gross will likely stand at around $60 million. That will be the franchise’s #2 tally, beneath only the $69.3 opening weekend figure posted by “Ultimatum.”

Fellow new release “Bad Moms” took second place Friday with $9.6 million. A gross of $6.8 million slots “Star Trek Beyond” as Friday’s #3 film, while “The Secret Life Of Pets” (#4, $5.5 million) and “Lights Out” (#5, $3.5 million) complete the Top 5.
