Ed Sheeran’s “x” Reaches 4X Platinum In The United States

Ed Sheeran’s second studio album is called “x.”

When describing its platinum status in the US, add a 4 to the title.

That is correct: as of June 17, 2016, Sheeran’s album is quadruple platinum.

The certification confirms a US unit total of 4 million. Under the RIAA’s revamped albums program, each unit can be equal to 1 album sale, 10 track sales or 1500 track streams.

“x” becomes Sheeran’s first multi-platinum album in the US; his debut “+” is currently platinum.
