Fetty Wap’s Album Pacing For a Disappointing 70-75K Sales; May Trail George Strait

Given his success in producing hit singles like “Trap Queen,” “My Way” and “679,” sales expectations were high for Fetty Wap’s self-titled debut album.

It appears the album will far dramatically short of those expectations.

Based on opening day sales data, Hits Daily Double forecasts that “Fetty Wap” will sell 70-75,000 copies during the September 25-October 1 tracking week. Going into the week, the widespread assumption was that the album would reach comfortably into six-figure territory.

In addition to falling short of expectations, “Fetty Wap” may not even rank as the week’s top debut. Hits currently pegs George Strait’s “Cold Beer Conversation” as the leader among new releases; it is projected to sell 75-80,000.

“Fetty Wap” may even land beneath Don Henley’s “Cass County,” which is tracking for the same 70-75,000 in pure sales.

The inclusion of Track Equivalent Albums (10 single sales = 1 album equivalent unit) and Streaming Equivalent Albums (1500 single streams = 1 album equivalent unit) will, however, produce a higher first-week consumption total for “Fetty Wap.” Hits estimates that “Fetty Wap” will debut with 110-115,000 consumption units; Strait’s album will land in 78-82,000 range, while Henley’s should drive 71-76,000 units.
