Based on weekend data, Luke Bryan’s “Kill The Lights” is on track to win a second straight album sales race.
Hits Daily Double projects the album, which moved 320,000 pure copies in its first week of release, to shift an additional 75,000-plus during the August 14-20 tracking week. That will easily be enough for a second straight Top Album Sales victory.
Dr. Dre’s “Compton” will once again claim the #2 position on the Top Album Sales chart. The album, which moved 276,000 pure copies during its initial August 7-13 tracking period, is pacing to move 45-50,000 inside the August 14-20 frame.
Since many expected “Compton” to benefit handsomely from the release of the “Straight Outta Compton” movie, the modest week two projection is very sobering.
— In addition to Top Album Sales, “Kill the Lights” is also expected to earn a second week at #1 on the Billboard 200. That chart ranks albums based on the combination of pure album sales, track sales/10 and track streams/1500.
