Update: While the initial Nielsen Music data positioned Alan Jackson’s “Angels and Alcohol” atop the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, a recalculation confirms that Jason Isbell’s “Something More Than Free” was actually the top seller.
Per Billboard Country Update, Isbell’s album tops the chart with an opening week US sales total of approximately 46,000. Jackson’s album moved a “few hundred shy” of that total in the official July 17-23 tracking week.
Nielsen’s data initially reported 45,361 sales for “Angels and Alcohol” and 39,775 for “Something More Than Free.”
The switch to a Friday-Thursday sales tracking week seems to be causing calculation trouble for Nielsen and Billboard. Last week’s numbers faced at least two revisions following their initial publication.

According to Nielsen Music, “Angels” sold 45,361 copies during the July 17-23 tracking week. That tally enabled it to become Jackson’s fourteenth #1 country album.
With Track Equivalent Albums (10 single sales = 1 album sale) and Streaming Equivalent Albums (1500 single streams = 1 album sale) included, “Angels and Alcohol” generated a first week consumption total of 47,881 units.
The total slots “Angels” at #3 on the revamped, consumption-oriented Billboard 200. Only Future’s “DS2” and Taylor Swift’s “1989” rank higher.
Only the Future album generated more traditional sales.
