Taylor Swift’s “1989” Rules 2015 Album Sales Chart; Drake, Sam Smith Albums Follow

Whether one looks at a chart based on pure album sales or album equivalent consumption units, he will find Taylor Swift’s “1989” at the top of the list.

Through six months, Taylor Swift’s “1989” reigns as the year’s best-selling and most-consumed album. The album, which moved 3.66 million pure album copies in 2014, has thus far sold an additional 1.328 million in 2015.

It is the only album with a year-to-date sales total in excess of 1 million.

With Track Equivalent Albums (10 single sales = 1 album sale) and Streaming Equivalent Albums (1500 single streams = 1 album sale) included, “1989” boasts a consumption total of 2.011 million units. It is the only album with a year-to-date unit total in excess of 2 million.
