Taylor, Meghan, Sam, Sia, Hozier Nominated for Song of the Year

When evaluating the Grammy nominees for Record and Song of the Year, do not anticipate on noticing much disconnect.

Four songs are nominated for both categories. Differentiation only concerns the fifth song in each bucket.

Up for both trophies are Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off,” Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass,” Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” and Sia’s “Chandelier.” All well-liked songs that reached the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100, the four tracks possess the optimal combination of quality and popularity.

Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy (featuring Charli XCX),” which spent seven weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, occupies the fifth Record of the Year slot. Hozier’s “Take Me to Church,” which recently surged up to the #3 spot on the Billboard chart, claims the last available Song of the Year nod.
