2010’s “Speak Now” and 2012’s “Red” both moved more than one million copies in their opening weeks.
Taylor Swift’s 2014 album “1989,” which she calls her first official pop record, is about to do the same.
According to Hits Daily Double, the album, which was previously pegged for a bow in the 750,000-1 million range, is now a safe bet to cross the latter mark by the end of the tracking week.
When that happens, it will provide Swift with the distinction of being the first artist in history to score three opening week tallies in excess of one million.
“1989” will also immediately claim the best cumulative sales total for any album released in 2014.
Not simply a hot seller as a collective work, “1989” has also sent its individual tracks cruising up the iTunes single sales chart. As of press time, every single song on the standard issue was within the Top 50 on iTunes, six were in the top ten and three were in the top five.
