Disney’s new version of “The Lion King” fared immensely well in its opening weekend at the US box office.
Per studio estimates, the film will close its inaugural weekend with $185.0 million in receipts. The figure ranks as the greatest opening weekend ever for a July release. It meanwhile takes #9 on the overall list, moving just ahead of “The Incredibles 2” and just below “Avengers: Age Of Ultron.”
“The Lion King,” obviously, ranks as a dominant #1 in this weekend’s box office race.
“Spider-Man: Far From Home” takes #2 with $21.0 million (cume now $319.7 million), while “Toy Story 4” takes #3 with $14.6 million (cume now $375.5 million).
“Crawl” grabs #4 with $6.0 million (cume now $23.8 million), and “Yesterday” takes #5 with $5.1 million (cume now $57.6 million).
