“Tomorrowland” Moves Ahead of “Pitch Perfect 2” at Box Office

A box office race that started as a dead heat looks like it will fall narrowly in the favor of “Tomorrowland.”

Studio estimates for the three-day weekend say that the new release will have earned $32.2 million by the end of Sunday. “Pitch Perfect 2,” which won last week’s box office race, will be at $30 million.

The victor in the three-day race, “Tomorrowland” is also on track to win the four-day weekend.

While “Poltergeist” was the clear third-place finisher on Friday, “Mad Max: Fury Road” has overtaken the horror adaptation. Studio estimates report its three-day total at $23.9 million; “Poltergeist” earned $23.0 million.

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” follows in fifth with $20.9 million. Now past the $400 million mark, its cumulative total registers at $404.1 million.
