It’s official–Violet is dead.
Wednesday’s “American Horror Story” finally answered a lingering question: did Violet really survive her mid-season suicide attempt? As it turns out, the answer is a resounding “no.” Tate was unable to revive Violet after her pill overdose, and she became the latest addition to Murder House’s “ghost roster.”
Tate had been protecting Violet from the reality, but his ability to keep the facade going was about to come to an end. Hoping to rekindle Violet’s enthusiasm in school, Ben was looking to send Violet to a new school. Since Violet is dead, that task would have proven impossible; ghosts who die on the property cannot leave the house, and any effort to leave the premises would have revealed the shocking, painful reality to Violet.
So, instead, Tate played on Violet’s love with a proposition for her to “die twice.” Citing “Romeo & Juliet,” he proposed that he and Violet commit suicide so that they would remain together in the house. If Violet believed she died that way, she would never have to know about the success of her previous suicide attempt.
Violet accepted Tate’s proposal, but then frantically ran out of the house, hoping to escape from the dead Tate’s psychotic idea. Unfortunately, that led her to the reality Tate had hoped she would never meet: she was already dead. As she tried to leave the property, she immediately found herself back in the house. She was effectively running in circles–out the front door, in the back door.
That finally shed light on what it means to be trapped at Murder House. It also revealed the answer to the long-running question about Violet.
So what is next? Creator Ryan Murphy tells EW that Violet’s parents will definitely find out about Violet’s death. He explains, “They will eventually find out if she’s dead and imagine what you would do as a parent if you found out your child was dead. Would you want to live? Would you want to die yourself? I knew that it would be ripe for that family.”
Other notes from the episode:
— We learned that Tate was unaccepting of Larry’s role as his new stepfather. He also had a problem with Constance’s fantasy that he is a perfect child. With all that anger building up, plus the implied bullying he faced in school, Tate went into a drug-induced rage the morning of his school shooting. And there was a pit-stop along the way–he stopped at Larry’s office and set him on fire, which finally explains why Larry, who did not burn in the house with his family, suffers the brutal burn damage.
— After killing them, Constance buried Moira in the backyard (which we pretty much knew) and then ground her husband up with Dr. Montgomery’s tools in the basement and fed the remains to dogs. The police have long suspected Constance is responsible for their “disappearances” and felt that finding the bodies would expose her as the murderer.
— Claiming he wants to pay penance for the sins against his family (by instead lusting after Constance), Larry took the heat for Travis’ death. He will be shipped off to prison in Illinois, and Ryan Murphy says this will probably be the last we see of him.
— Prior to proposing the suicide idea to Violet, Tate “knocked out” Ben with chloroform while in the Rubber Man suit. Just before passing out, Ben ripped Tate’s mask off and learned the identity of the man who raped his wife.
There is another thing.
Did violet really died because of the pills?
Well she said that she doesn’t remember how she died. And the way her dead body looks, it seems like she was out of breath and strangled.
Maybe she did survive but Tate killed her.
Almost all the ghost knows how they died. But why not her.
One more thing. Does Constance knows that Tate knows he is dead? Because in a previous episode, Constance warned Violet not to tell Tate that he is dead already. But apparently he knows.
Oh well I really hope Tate didn’t killed her.
