Ratings: HBO’s “Game of Thrones” Roars Back, Posts Highest Viewership Since Premiere

One week after delivering its lowest-rated and least-watched episode in two seasons, HBO’s “Game of Thrones” roared back with the most-watched edition since the season premiere.

Sunday’s “Game of Thrones,” which received rave reviews, drew a 3.45 adults 18-49 rating with 7.01 million viewers. While several interim episodes posted stronger adults 18-49 marks, no episode since the April 12 season five premiere (8.00 million viewers) reached a larger live+same-day audience.

Last week’s “Thrones” settled for a 2.53 adults 18-49 rating with 5.40 million viewers. It was the second straight installment to set a two-season viewership low.

While the week-over-week gain is surely positive, it is worth noting that this Sunday’s episode drew fewer viewers than the corresponding season four installment. Airing on June 1, 2014, that edition posted a 3.9 rating with 7.17 million viewers.

Other HBO programming:

Silicon Valley – 0.98 with 1.78 million (versus a 0.84 with 1.60 million last week)
Veep – 0.48 with 0.99 million (versus a 0.50 with 0.98 million last week)
Last Week Tonight – 0.62 with 1.39 million
