“Dunkirk” convincingly won this weekend’s US box office race. Fellow new release “Valerian” only managed a #5 bow.

“Dunkirk” will claim #1 on the US Weekend Box Office Chart.

Set to gross an estimated $50.5 million this weekend, the critically acclaimed new release convincingly ranks as America’s top film.

Its closest competition comes from newcomer “Girls Trip,” which is set to take home $30.4 million.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming,” which added $22.0 million to its haul (its cumulative total is now $251.7 million), follows at #3.

“War for the Planet of the Apes,” last weekend’s winner, earns #4 on this weekend’s chart. It earned another $20.4 million (cume now $97.8 million).

While newcomers “Dunkirk” and “Girls Trip” performed well, new release “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” got off to a very disappointing start. The costly film will debut at #5 with just $17.0 million.
