While the beginning of Camila Cabello’s statement criticized elements of Fifth Harmony’s announcement regarding her departure, the latter portion focused on the importance of pursuing happiness.
Early Tuesday morning, a musician of considerable relevance to the story commended a passage from Cabello’s note.
“Beautifully said,” Tweeted Mendes in response to Cabello’s (abbreviated) line, “pursue what makes your heart pound…happiness is our responsibility.”
Mendes also quote-Tweeted the entirety of Cabello’s statement.
Mendes and Cabello collaborated on last year’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” The single, which would eventually go platinum, marked Cabello’s first notable project outside the group.
It also, based on a statement issued by Fifth Harmony Monday night, marked a turning point in the relationship between group members.
“We have spent the past year and a half (since her initial solo endeavor) trying to communicate to her and her team all of the reasons why we felt Fifth Harmony deserved at least one more album of her time, given the success of this past year that we’d all worked so hard for,” wrote Cabello’s former groupmates.
