It may have received tepid reviews, but “The Girl On The Train” still rode to victory at the US weekend box office.
Per studio estimates, “Girl” will claim $24.7 million in receipts through the end of the close of business on Sunday. The gross is enough for a comfortable #1 debut.
“Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children,” which topped last weekend’s box office, slips to #2 this weekend. It grossed $15.0 million (cume now $51.1 million).
“Deepwater Horizon” follows at #3 (-1) with $11.8 million (cume now $38.5 million), while “The Magnificent Seven” takes #4 (-1) courtesy a third weekend haul of $9.2 million (cume now $75.9 million).
Credited with $8.5 million in weekend receipts (cume now $50.1 million), “Storks” ranks as the #5 film (-4).
“The Birth Of A Nation” and “Middle School: The Worst Years Of My Life,” the weekend’s other notable new releases, respectively follow at #6 and #7. The former earned $7.1 million, the latter hauled in $6.9 million.
