NBC held its Television Critics Association press tour panels Tuesday, and the upcoming “Hairspray Live!” naturally received ample attention.
Newly announced cast members Dove Cameron and Garrett Clayton were not in attendance, but Maddie Baillio, Ariana Grande, Kristin Chenoweth, Jennifer Hudson, Derek Hough, and Harvey Fierstein were. Directors Kenny Leon and Alex Rudzinski as well as producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron also participated in Tuesday’s panel.
News stemming from the session includes confirmation that Sean Hayes and Rosie O’Donnell will participate in the live production, which airs on December 7. Hayes will play dress shop owner Mr. Pinky, while O’Donnell will appear as gym teacher Prudy Pingleton.
