“Captain America: Civil War” Repeats as Box Office Champion; “Jungle Book” Crosses $300M

Captain America Civil War [Official Marvel Production Still]

A sixty percent weekend-to-weekend decline did not prevent “Captain America: Civil War” from dominantly winning a second straight US box office race.

Studio estimates say “Civil War” will net $72.6 million at the US box office this weekend. The gross, which tops that of the nearest competitor by a factor of more than 4, keeps the latest Marvel film at #1. It also brings the film’s cume to $295.9 million.

“The Jungle Book,” again the nearest competitor, added $17.8 million to its haul this weekend. Its cumulative gross is now $311.8 million.

New release “Money Monster” earns #3 with $15.0 million. “The Darkness,” also a new release, follows at #4 with $5.2 million.

Completing the Top 5 is “Mother’s Day,” which earns fifth place on the strength of $3.3 million in weekend receipts.
