“Maze Runner: Scorch Trials” edged fellow new release “Black Mass” to claim the top spot at the Friday box office.
The former film earned $11.0 million in its first day of release; the latter was good for $8.8 million.
While “Maze Runner” emerged as the leader, both operated at a significant distance from the rest of the pack. “The Visit,” Friday’s #3 film, earned $3.6 million.
“The Perfect Guy” followed with $3.0 million, while limited release new offering “Everest” took #5. It grossed $2.3 million across 545 screens.
“Captive,” the weekend’s other new release, took home $0.6 million from 806 screens. It was Friday’s #8 film.
