Fifth Harmony Doesn’t Perform at BBMA; Group Comments on Fan “Campaigning” (Updated)

Update: Ahead of Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards, Billboard, dick clark productions and ABC all announced that Fifth Harmony would be performing at the show.

Per an official press release, that performance was to include a “special” edition of the group’s rising hit “Worth It.”

Fifth Harmony did not end up performing at the show; the group instead introduced Nicki Minaj’s performance.

Neither ABC nor dick clark production has yet responded to a request for clarification.

Hyped for its attempt to provide an answer to the question, the most recent Billboard Pop Shop similarly fails to offer clarity. The co-hosts expressed anticipation that Fifth Harmony and its team would address the matter, but they offered no actual insight into what happened.

Thus far, Fifth Harmony’s only public response has been a Tweet that downplayed the extensive confirmation and promotion for the group’s performance: “To all our fans who’ve been campaigning for a performance tonight we hear you! We’re just presenting tonight but we’ll see you on Tuesday [the “Dancing with the Stars” finale]!”

Last week, official confirmation came that Fifth Harmony was performing “Worth It” during Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards ceremony.

In addition to numerous mentions across Billboard’s various social networks, the performance was also announced in an official ABC press release. Moreover, dick clark productions added a Fifth Harmony folder to the “performers” section of its press extranet (and added the below graphic).

Sunday’s ceremony seemed to be progressing without any mention of a Fifth Harmony performance. And as the third hour approached, the group Tweeted, “To all our fans who’ve been campaigning for a performance tonight we hear you! We’re just presenting tonight but we’ll see you on Tuesday [the “Dancing with the Stars” finale]!”

Interestingly, the Tweet operates as if no performance was scheduled — and thus provides no insight into why the announced performance did not actually take place at the ceremony. For curious fans, the reason for the cut (such as time constraints) is of immense relevance.

The girl group ended up introducing Nicki Minaj’s performance. To exacerbate the situation for a disappointed Harmonizer fanbase, there was an audio and lighting miscue at the beginning of the introduction.
