Update: Headline Planet’s projection was correct: the final ratings report brought upgraded numbers for FOX’s “Empire.”
Wednesday’s episode of the freshman drama drew a 5.4 adults 18-49 rating with 13.90 million viewers. Both figures represent series highs.
Lead-in “American Idol” drew a 2.7 with 10.38 million viewers for the season’s first competition episode.
==========
Shows simply do not perform the way FOX’s “Empire” has cross its first two months.
Last week, that unprecedented upward journey brought FOX’s “Empire” to a whopping 5.2 adults 18-49 rating with 13.02 million viewers. No scripted network program fared as well in adults 18-49.
This week, “Empire” aimed to move even higher.
It did.
Leading out of “American Idol” (2.6 rating, 10.18 million viewers), Wednesday’s “Empire” soared to a series high 5.3 adults 18-49 rating with 13.75 million viewers, per fast national data. As those numbers include one minute of the lower-rated “American Idol,” an upward adjustment in the final ratings report is very likely.
Each of the seven post-premiere “Empire” episodes has enjoyed a viewership increase. All but one gained in adults 18-49.
