In moving 1.287 million copies during its inaugural frame, Taylor Swift’s “1989” instantly established itself as the best selling release of 2014. No album issued on or after January 1, 2014 has commanded a sales total within even a few hundred thousand of what “1989” moved in its first week.
Swift’s album will score another monstrous achievement this week.
According to Hits Daily Double, “1989” is on pace to move between 385,000 and 410,000 units in its second week. If that forecast holds, the album’s second week sales total will exceed any other 2014 album’s first week sum.
Coldplay’s “Ghost Stories,” which claimed the year’s best opening week prior to the launch of “1989,” opened with 383,000 first week sales.
Per Hits, “NOW 52” will serve as the runner-up on the album sales chart this week. It is due to move 65-70,000 copies.
Others expected to notch top five positions include Jason Aldean’s “Burnin’ it Down” (~30-35,000), Calvin Harris’ “Motion” (~30-35,000) and Barbra Streisand’s “Partners” (~30-35,000).
