Based on the continuous success of his singles and albums, America cannot get enough of Luke Bryan.
It evidently does not, however, share the same appetite for modest cover versions of his songs.
Following a rendition of Bryan’s “Muckalee Creek Water” that received a lukewarm reception from the judges and critics, “American Idol” contestant Dexter Roberts became the latest victim of elimination.
Jessica Meuse, who, like Roberts, calls Alabama home, joined Roberts in the bottom two following her critically panned rendition of “Gunpowder and Lead.” It was her first appearance in the weekly bottom group.
Never considered a serious contender, Roberts nonetheless garnered support as the thirteenth “Idol” season’s truest ambassador for country music. That rapport with country fans, unfortunately, could not compensate for an “Idol” journey critics and judges felt lacked significant progression.
Roberts’ elimination trims the “Idol” pool down to six. Returning to the stage next week are Meuse, Alex Preston, Jena Irene, Caleb Johnson, CJ Harris and Sam Woolf.
