Know who you are. Be true to yourself. They are creeds that might sound hopelessly cheesy and naive in a jaded world riddled with superficial judgment.
But when it comes to “American Idol,” they definitely have value.
After parlaying a southern rock/country persona to make waves early in the competition, Ben Briley curiously made the choice to sing Elton John’s “Bennie/Benny and the Jets” for his Movie Night performance this week. Even if it had been good vocally–and it was not–it would have represented far too distant a departure from his usual self to resonate.
Fans, naturally, held the compromise against him. They refrained from giving him their votes, and he became the latest victim of the “American Idol” results show.
The elimination keeps Briley off the annual “Idol” tour. Fellow bottom three members Sam Woolf and Majesty Rose, along with Jess Meuse, Malaya Watson, Jena Irene, Dexter Roberts, CJ Harris, Caleb Johnson, MK Nobilette and Alex Preston, represent the touring top ten.
They return to the stage next Wednesday.
