Channing Tatum’s box office run has been great in recent weeks. After his “The Vow” made a huge impact as this year’s Valentine’s Day date movie, his “21 Jump Street” feature, which also stars screenwriter Jonah Hill, is set for an impressive weekend bow.
Based on early Friday returns, the film is expected to clear $30 million this weekend and could hold up decently against “The Hunger Games” next week due to word of mouth.
And with the strong results and reviews confirmed, Sony has reportedly made moves on a sequel to the adaptation, booking Jonah Hill and Michael Bacall, the collaborators on this project, to develop the treatment.
Hill and Tatum have not signed on yet to reprise as stars, but Variety reports they almost definitely will, getting executive producer credits in the process.
