In the latest addition to a saga that has become almost comical, sources again report that WWE is planning to put the WWE Championship on Money in the Bank winner Alberto Del Rio.
Tentative plans had called for Del Rio to win either the WWE or World title belt on several occasions over the past year, but each time, WWE ultimately ended up going in a different direction.
Summerslam represents the most recent example–plans dating back to the spring called for John Cena to wrestle Alberto Del Rio on the show, but the hot CM Punk angle resulted in WWE moving towards Cena vs. Punk.
Ultimately, however, F4WOnline.com says WWE still plans to put the title on Del Rio at some point in the next few months. The story, brought forth on “Wrestling Observer Radio,” noted that it really does not matter who wins the Cena-Punk match at Summerslam because WWE ultimately wants to build towards Del Rio capturing the belt.
Given how things have fared this past year, however, one still might not want to bet money on a Del Rio title reign.
