On a bizarrely mediocre night of “American Idol” that saw the judges–newcomers Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, in particular–seemingly overrate every performance, there were nonetheless some standouts. According to Internet searchers, the most prominent of those standouts were Scotty McCreery and Jacob Lusk.
Lusk, who has received glowing marks from the judges (Randy Jackson called one of his Hollywood round performances the best in the history of “Idol”), has spurred searches related to his take on “A House is Not a Home.” Jennifer Lopez compared Lusk to the late Luther Vandross, who had a famous version of that song, and Randy Jackson shared in that comparison. The result–“Luther Vandross” is the second-most-searched term on Google as of 11:15PM ET, falling only behind “American Idol vote.”
Lusk himself currently ranks eighth on Google Trends.
Teenage Scotty McCreery, who made early waves for his deep, throwback country voice, is also tracking well. The third-most-searched query is “Letters from Home,” his song choice for the evening, while McCreery’s name is the ninth-most-searched term.
Others in the mix: Casey Abrams (he performed “I Put a Spell on You,” which ranks tenth), Paul McDonald (eleventh) and Brett Loewenstern (fourteenth).
Headline Planet’s recap of the Top 12 Male Semifinals show is due for early Wednesday morning.
While I thought some of the choices that the judges made were wtf strange, these are the two that they got right. Different styles, beautiful voices both.
