ABC Family’s “Greek” Actually Beats The CW’s “90210” in the Ratings Race

By now, The CW’s supposed flagships “90210” and “Gossip Girl” cannot achieve ratings within even the same league as ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars.”

But for “90210,” things got even bleaker Monday night. The network television series actually lost to the cable station’s notoriously-low-rated “Greek” in the women 18-34 demographic.

While the young female demographic is not universally placed on the same importance level as the adults 18-49 demo, The CW has often claimed that demographic to be its target. Previously-decent performance with women 18-34 has allowed the network to justify treating shows like “Gossip Girl” as hits even though their viewership has always been at levels that would be beyond unacceptable by other networks.

Yet even though “Greek” has been a consistent ratings disappointment, even by reduced cable standards, it managed to top “90210” in that category for its penultimate episode.

Monday’s “Greek,” which only garnered 889,000 viewers and a 0.5 adults 18-49 rating according to a report by Travis Yanan, posted a 1.1 in the W18-34 demo. “90210,” meanwhile, averaged a 0.7 adults 18-49 rating with 1.448 million viewers. Its W18-34 demo rating, however, was only a 1.0.
