“No Strings Attached” Wins Weekend Box Office, “Green Hornet” Rebounds

“No Strings Attached,” as expected, parlayed its solid Friday performance into a weekend box office victory, but “The Green Hornet” managed to impress Saturday en route to a decent second place finish.

After getting off to a slow start on Friday, “Hornet” won the Saturday race and earned an estimated weekend total of $18.1 million. That put the 3D flick close behind winner “Strings,” which garnered $20.3 million in its first outing.

“No Strings Attached” outperformed many recent “chick flicks,” but its total remained below many of the optimistic estimates from earlier this week.

“The Dilemma” finished in third with $9.7 million, showing acceptable retention from its disappointing first weekend. Thanks to awards buzz and an expanded screen total, “The King’s Speech” basically matched last week’s gross with $9.2 million for fourth.

“True Grit” completed the top five with $8 million.

Weekend Top Ten:
1) No Strings Attached – $20.3 million
2) The Green Hornet – $18.1 million ($63.4 million)
3) The Dilemma – $9.7 million ($33.3 million)
