Early “Harry’s Law” Ratings Hold Fairly Steady in Week Two

Although it benefited from an easy battle with a “Hawaii 5-0” re-run (an unfortunate decision for CBS given the momentum the show could have carried from its post-AFC Championship airing Sunday), “Harry’s Law,” from all indications, held fairly steady in the ratings for its second episode.

The show posted a 7.1 overnight metered market rating, down only 5% from the premiere number. While last week revealed that a high overnight number is not necessarily going to translate into a strong demographic performance for the very old-skewing series, the 7.1 rating hints that the show at least held up from a total viewership standpoint, an accomplishment for a series premiere in 2011.

How the show will be judged remains to be seen. NBC has made its interest in the advertiser-friendly adults 18-49 demographic very clear in recent years, and “Harry” might very well slip below a 2.0 in that category this week. But if it again tops 10 million viewers, will it not still bring some value to a network that often struggles to attract mass audiences?

NBC’s other entries Monday included “Chuck” (3.9 in the overnights) and “The Cape” (3.7 in the overnights). Neither will compare to “Harry’s Law” from a total viewership standpoint, but the demo numbers should be fairly similar.

  1. First week of Harry’s Law they bashed conservatives, second week they did the same. I won’t watch it again, it is ashame, it could have been an OK weekly watch.

  2. So u will only watch shows that bash liberals (rush, anything against healthcare reform) the 2 political subjects discussed on harry’s law so far. Wow you’re a huge hypocrite Norma. Plz don’t tune in next week. The rest of us who like to b entertained and love Kathy Bates will continue 2 watch.

  3. I absolutely love this show. Please don’t cancel it. I’m hoping it will top that stupid Hawaii Five 0 remake. If people are smart and I think they are they will watch this instead.

  4. I love Kathy Bates and I love this show. I hate Hawaii Five 0 where all they do is take their shirts off, blow crap up or hang out in a bikini. Acting? I think not. This show, on the other hand has a great lead actress and they can build on the cast. Keep this show, please.

  5. Cynthia, for your information, I like Kathy Bates that is why I tuned in the first week. Any form of bashing is not entertainment. Maybe you should get educated on what hypocrite means! Can’t understand why you would make that statement. Don’t worry, I won’t be watching.

  6. Yep, this show had potential, if it hadn’t been just another excuse for liberals to wrap themselves in their little ideological cocoon and whisper sweet nothings in their own ears. Oh well, there’s plenty of other entertainment around. Happy 6 or 8 episodes.

  7. I don’t care if it’s liberal – I have a mind of my own. I am looking for ENTERTAINMENT and this show definitely fills that bill. I loved the writing and the delivery of the zingers. I watch few major network shows, but as long as this one is on – I’ll DVR and watch it; commercial free !

  8. Kathy Bates could win an Emmy without breaking a sweat in a decent series. Sadly, this isn’t it.
