While its cancellation is not a certainty, The CW’s “Life UneXpected” received bad news on its future this week.
According to Deadline, The CW opted not to order a back nine from the Tuesday drama, meaning that the show’s second season will wrap with 13 episodes. A back nine order is not a prerequisite for a future season renewal, but given the fact that “LUX” was the only CW show not to receive that additional pickup, pessimism is deservedly building.
Although critics have been far warmer to “LUX” than many of The CW’s other series, the show has never truly clicked with viewers. Its first season numbers, especially given the network’s low standards, were acceptable enough to warrant an opportunity this year, but as the show continues to drag in the ratings, cancellation seems like the most appropriate option.
The Deadline story notes that the season finale, scheduled for January, will be written like a series finale and resolve a number of outstanding plot arcs.
