Despite the widespread critical acclaim, FOX’s “Lone Star” simply has no chance as a network television series.
Its death seemed etched in stone after last week’s abysmally-rated premiere, and things only got worse Monday night. While the show’s fast national rating is in line with last week’s figure (1.3 adults 18-49 rating), the removal of a slight “House” overrun will likely send the number down in the final Nielsen report.
And, regardless, as “Lone Star” would have needed to show actual growth to have any chance of demonstrating its potential viabilty to FOX, it appears to be on life support at the network.
Despite the inclusion of a few minutes of “House,” the show’s viewership average was a mere 3.79 million for monday’s airing. FOX has not officially made any decision regarding the show’s fate, but few believe it will extend beyond another week or two. It is even possible the network will issue a cancellation ahead of next week’s episode.
“House,” meanwhile, continued its slow fall from grace with a 3.7 rating and 10.6 million viewers.
