According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Shawn Michaels is giving a strong indication to friends that he really does plan to retire following this year’s WrestleMania.
While retirements in wrestling are hard to take seriously, when speaking about the situation with peers, Michaels is at least maintaining the fact that he sees himself walking away from the ring in the near future.
Both Shawn Michaels and the Undertaker were originally expected to take several months off after their WrestleMania battle anyway, presumably with plans to return for Summerslam. The latest word from Michaels, however, indicates that he might be contemplating hanging up the boots for good, or at least longer than for a few months. Some, skeptical that he will really retire, believe he could end up instead returning at the 2011 Royal Rumble or for WrestleMania 27.
It should be noted that Michaels’ plans to take time off should not necessarily be viewed as a sign that he will lose the match. Most believe WWE will preserve Taker’s streak this year, but because the outcome appears so obvious, WWE might work some sort of swerve into the finish.
