In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “How I Met Your Mother” creator Craig Thomas offers major spoilers for the upcoming one hundredth episode.
Set to air in January, the milestone episode will be significant from a creative standpoint.
“There is some serious Mother action in episode 100,” says Thomas. “It’ll be the closest Ted’s ever come to [learning her identity]. He’s getting a step closer every episode this season, and episode 100 [we] kind of go bananas with it.”
Though it appears Thomas’ statement is a tease–it does not seem likely that the mother will be revealed outright in the episode (and the mother is probably not “the female” in the 100th segment)–he did confirm that he and fellow creator Carter Bays “are spending a lot of time trying to cast the female role in Ted’s story for episode 100.”
Thomas also confirmed that the episode will climax with an extravagant musical number.
“There will be a huge Barney story culminating in an enormous musical number that we’re going to spend way too much of Twentieth Television’s money on,” says Thomas. “Fans of Neil’s performance at the Emmys will enjoy the ending of the episode. It’s not a musical episode, but all of a sudden it becomes one. It’ll probably be one of the craziest things we’ve ever done on the show.”
This is one of the few shows on television that I make a point of watching every week. I’m sure they won’t reveal too much information about the mother because it would change the whole dynamic of the show.
