Leading up to the WWE Royal Rumble, the feud between The Miz and Jerry “The King” Lawler was coming across as the most compelling main-event program on RAW. Given the minimal importance of the title matches at that pay-per-view (since the Rumble is the real draw), there was some optimism among fans that WWE might involve Lawler in the title match.
Instead, WWE went with Randy Orton vs. The Miz, disappointing fans who felt the veteran should receive a high-profile PPV match.
But while that match did not happen at the Rumble, it will indeed happen. By virtue of winning a “RAW Rumble” on Monday’s edition of WWE RAW, Jerry Lawler will get a shot against The Miz at the Elimination Chamber.
Lawler achieved victory with assistance from John Cena, who wanted to get back at Sheamus for the role he played in Cena’s own elimination.
Cena and Sheamus, along with the other RAW Rumble participants (Randy Orton, John Morrison, R-Truth and CM Punk) will be in an Elimination Chamber match on the pay-per-view to determine who wrestles the WWE Champion at WrestleMania.
Lawler is a legend and I am glad to see the WWE finally give him a push. I hope they let him win the title for a few weeks. It would be a surprising story and the WWE needs to do more of that. People get tired of the same few wrestlers dominating each week. Having the King win the Rumble was a pleasant surprise and if they let him hold the WWE title for a few weeks, it would be a surprise as well.
