The week is still young, and it is thus too early to definitively project which song will take #1 on the Mediabase pop radio airplay chart.
Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” does, however, have a very real shot at the top.
“Look What You Made Me Do” received 6,784 spins during the first three days of the October 8-14 tracking week. Up a whopping 16.6% from the count at this point last week, the count slots “Look What You Made Me Do” at #1 on Mediabase’s building chart.
Liam Payne’s “Strip That Down (featuring Quavo),” which took #1 on this past week’s official chart, is #2 on the building listing. It received 6,764 spins during the first three days of the tracking week (-11.5%).
Given that the top two songs are separated by only 20 spins, this week’s race is by no means decided. “Look What You Made Me Do” will, moreover, have to maintain its furious rate of growth (a 16.6% increase is staggering for a song at the top of the chart) to keep that narrow lead through the close of tracking.
Still, reaching #1 is clearly a legitimate possibility – if not probability – for “Look What You Made Me Do.”
Prospects are thus much brighter than they were last week, when “Look What You Made Me Do” showed signs of stalling (it was actually down in airplay for the first half of the week, and it had Portugal. The Man’s “Feel It Still” hot on its heels for the entire tracking period).
