Up against NBC’s broadcast of the 68th Golden Globe Awards (ratings pending due to the live nature of the broadcast), “Desperate Housewives” sank to an all-time ratings low.
The ABC soap garnered an abysmal 3.1 adults 18-49 rating with 10.08 million viewers. For comparison’s sake, last season’s Globes night broadcast averaged a 3.7 with 11.2 million viewers in the fast nationals, a huge disappointment at the time.
Last week’s episode averaged a 3.9 with 12.69 million viewers in the comparable data.
Lead-out “Brothers & Sisters” barely registered with a 2.1 and 7.23 million viewers. ABC also served up “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” (2.0, 7.94 million).
Without the massive NFL lead-in, FOX’s animated lineup fell significantly this week. “American Dad,” which received minimal marketing for its relocated airing at 7:30PM, scored a 1.7 with 3.58 million viewers. Veteran “The Simpsons” was down from its 5.7 to a 3.1 with 6.47 million viewers, inevitably impacting new series “Bob’s Burgers.” Episode two of “Burgers” garnered a 2.6 rating with 5.103 million viewers; while certainly not impressive for a cartoon sandwiched between two animated powerhouses, that performance actually represents an improved retention rate over the premiere.
“Family Guy” showed strength against the Golden Globes with a healthy 3.7 rating and 7.08 million viewers, leading into its spin-off “The Cleveland Show” (2.7 rating, 5.55 million).
CBS data is subject to significant change due to the impact of the highly-rated Jets-Patriots game, which bled into CBS’ usual timeslot broadcasts.
All the commercials are very annoying. Might just stop watching all together….
