Last week’s “The Good Doctor” may have delivered a series low performance, but the freshman drama has ultimately been one of the few ratings bright spots for the 2017-18 season.
Its success has, predictably, led to a second season renewal.
ABC officially confirmed the renewal Wednesday.
“’The Good Doctor’’s message of inclusiveness resonates with our viewers and is a hallmark of what we aim to accomplish here at ABC,” said Channing Dungey, president, ABC Entertainment. “This series has quickly joined the zeitgeist and broken records in the competitive television landscape. We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Shaun Murphy will be back for another season.”
“The Good Doctor” is ABC’s most-watched freshman series in thirteen years. It has delivered massive year-over-year increases in the Monday at 10PM timeslot.
In a particularly impressive feat, “The Good Doctor” routinely built on its “Dancing With The Stars” lead-in this fall.
Season one of the medical drama resumes on Monday, March 12.
