Across Saturday evening Tweets, Grammy-winning musician John Mayer praised the recent Paramore and Harry Styles album.
Mayer began his Twitter stream by discussing how the “closed loop” nature of content consumption can prevent even great music from reaching beyond a band’s core fanbase.
“For as much content as we have access to, we still live in a fairly closed loop. Artists reach their fans through ad-hoc channels…And even if they thrive, they don’t really pick up as many new fans as they should because of these closed loops.”
He used Paramore’s new “After Laughter” to illustrate his point.
“Here’s where I’m getting at… this @paramore album is great,” wrote Mayer. “Their fans know it. But every fan of pop music needs to check it out.”
Mayer then transitioned to a quick comment about Harry Styles’ self-titled debut album. Mayer lauded the One Direction member for choosing “honest, beautiful songcraft” over the various other styles he could have pursued.
“Also, @Harry_Styles could have made any style record under the sun,” noted Mayer. “And he chose to make honest, beautiful songcraft.”
