Taylor Swift’s Album Of The Year victory produced three major talking points.
Obviously, there is the congratulatory story. Swift, whose “1989” served as a reminder that music that resonates can still sell, became the first woman to twice win the Album Of The Year Grammy (as a lead artist).
There was also the reaction to her acceptance speech, in which she blatantly fired back at Kanye West’s “Famous” lyric. Swift advised young women not to let others take credit for their accomplishments or fame.
The third element? Tori Kelly’s facial reaction.
During Swift’s commentary, the camera crew captured the Best New Artist with what many social users are interpreting as a disinterested, if not disapproving, facial reaction.
While it is highly unlikely Kelly was deliberately “throwing shade” — Kelly once covered Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” and received praise from the original artist — the facial expression clearly provided social media-savvy Grammy viewers with something about which to speak.
