Daya’s “Hide Away” Cracks Top 100 on iTunes, Nears Top 40 at Pop Radio

Over the past several weeks, Daya’s debut single “Hide Away” has become increasingly less hidden.

Friday, it received its most high-profile exposure yet. In the wake of that exposure, the song is enjoying an improved position on the all-genre iTunes single sales chart.

Presented as Elvis Duran’s “Artist of the Month” (interestingly a week after Austin Mahone received the same label), the teen pop artist performed “Hide Away” on Friday morning’s NBC TODAY Show.

The song quickly began rising on the US iTunes chart; as of 3:30PM on August 21, it held the #99 spot.

While the performance deserves special credit for thrusting “Hide Away” into the Top 100, Daya’s single had been developing sales momentum prior to Friday’s TODAY Show. In a sign of resonance with audiences, “Hide Away” has been generating strong — and improving — iTunes and Shazam activity in response to its early airplay.

That airplay has been increasing, and “Hide Away” is now approaching the Top 40 on Mediabase’s pop radio chart.

The song received 735 spins during the first five days of the August 16-22 tracking week. Up a healthy 44.7% from last week’s total, the count positions “Hide Away” at #42 on Mediabase’s building pop radio airplay chart.
