Ratings: “Game of Thrones” Premiere Scores Series High Viewership

Sunday’s “Game of Thrones” season premiere set new series highs in adults 18-49 and total viewership.

Airing in its usual 9-10PM timeslot, the fifth season opener drew a strong 4.19 adults 18-49 rating with 7.997 million viewers. Collectively, the numbers establish the premiere as the most successful live+same-day “Thrones” broadcast to date.

The previous high mark came on May 18, 2014. That night’s episode drew a 3.9 with 7.195 million viewers.

Comfortably ahead of that episode, “GoT” also bested last year’s premiere (3.6, 6.64 million) and finale (3.8, 7.093 million).

HBO led out of “GoT” with “Silicon Valley” (1.26, 2.126 million), “Veep” (0.55, 1.048 million) and “Last Week Tonight” (0.67, 1.319 million).
