VH1 just dealt a major blow to those who believe ratings are the end-all, be-all determinant of success in today’s television world.
The network just renewed “Hindsight,” which spent the duration of its inaugural season in weak ratings territory, for a second season.
Of note is that VH1’s press release makes absolutely no mention of ratings. It does not even throw out references to obscure or narrow demographic categories in which “Hindsight” performed solidly.
The emphasis, instead, is on the quality of the series and its value in helping VH1 create a scripted slate.
“Our viewers have fallen in love with Hindsight,” says VH1’s Susan Levison. “From the characters and storytelling to the iconic music and fashion of the 90’s, this is a quintessential VH1 show and we can’t wait to see what Becca will do next. Congratulations to the cast and creative team behind this signature series.”
News of the “Hindsight” renewal comes on the heels of a slight ratings uptick for the first season finale. It also follows FXX’s decision to renew the even lower-rated “Man Seeking Woman.”
